Amethyst Dream
A tantalizing variation of the whiskey sour, the Amethyst Dream combines blueberry, amaro, and a touch of rum for a delectable and invigorating experience.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups blueberries
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 oz rye whiskey
- 3/4 oz Blueberry Syrup
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz Amaro Averna
- 1/2 oz Barbancourt 3 Star Rum
- 2 dashes celery bitters
- Lemon wheel and blueberries (for serving; optional)
Instructions
- Blend 1 1/2 cups blueberries with 1 cup water in a blender until smooth.
- Transfer the blueberry puree to a small saucepan and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, for 7 minutes. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
- Strain the blueberry puree through a fine sieve into a heatproof measuring cup, pressing on the solids to extract 1 cup of blueberry juice. Discard any remaining solids.
- In a clean blender, combine the blueberry juice and 2 cups of granulated sugar, blending until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Transfer the blueberry syrup to a resealable glass jar and refrigerate until chilled. Shake before use. The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for several months.
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 1 oz rye whiskey, 3/4 oz Blueberry Syrup, 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice, 1/2 oz Amaro Averna, 1/2 oz Barbancourt 3 Star Rum, and 2 dashes celery bitters. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
- Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice, using a Hawthorne strainer. Optionally, garnish with a lemon wheel and 3 blueberries on a cocktail pick.
