A delightful twist on the classic whiskey sour, featuring blueberry, amaro, and a touch of rum.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups blueberries
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 oz. rye whiskey
- 3/4 oz. Blueberry Syrup
- 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz. Amaro Averna
- 1/2 oz. Barbancourt 3 Star Rum
- 2 dashes celery bitters
- Lemon wheel and blueberries (for serving; optional)
Instructions
- In a blender, combine 1 1/2 cups blueberries with 1 cup water and blend until smooth.
- Pour the blueberry mixture into a saucepan and heat over medium heat until it begins to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 7 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Allow the blueberry mixture to cool for 5 minutes, then strain it through a tea strainer or cheesecloth, pressing on the solids to extract 1 cup of blueberry juice.
- In a blender, mix the blueberry juice with 2 cups of granulated sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Transfer the blueberry syrup to a glass jar and refrigerate until chilled. Shake before using.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine rye whiskey, Blueberry Syrup, fresh lemon juice, Amaro Averna, Barbancourt 3 Star Rum, and celery bitters with ice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
- Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Optionally, garnish with a lemon wheel and blueberries on a cocktail pick.
