Ingredients

  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (15 oz.) can cream of coconut
  • 1 (12 oz.) can unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped or 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 small cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 1/2 oz. rum

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, unsweetened coconut milk, evaporated milk, a pinch of salt, and cinnamon sticks.
  2. Stir the mixture over medium-low heat until well combined and just starting to simmer.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat, cover, and allow the mixture to steep for 30-45 minutes.
  4. After steeping, remove the cinnamon sticks and vanilla bean (if used).
  5. Add the rum to the mixture, starting with 1 cup and adjusting to taste.
  6. Pour the coquito into a pitcher or serving container, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours until well chilled.
  7. Serve the coquito chilled, neat, or over ice. Enjoy!
