Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces London Dry gin
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 heaping barspoon kumquat marmalade*
  • Garnish: orange twist
  • *Kumquat marmalade: 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup water, 2 cups kumquats (quartered), 1 star anise pod, 4 black peppercorns, pinch of saffron, 1 teaspoon grated ginger, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cardamom pods.

Instructions

  1. In a shaker with ice, combine the London Dry gin, Cointreau, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a heaping barspoon of kumquat marmalade.
  2. Shake the mixture until well-chilled.
  3. Fine-strain the cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with an orange twist.
  5. For the kumquat marmalade: In a small saucepan, simmer kumquats with sugar, water, and an array of spices until the liquid thickens. Cool before using.
