Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 inch nub peeled fresh ginger
  • 1.50 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 6 oz ginger beer
  • Candied ginger to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Smash the fresh ginger with the back of a knife and place it in a small saucepan with the cranberry juice.
  2. Heat the mixture over high heat until it boils, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove the pan from heat, allow the juice to cool, and strain it to remove the ginger.
  4. Fill a whiskey glass with ice and pour in the reduced cranberry juice.
  5. Add the bourbon to the glass and top it off with ginger beer.
  6. Gently stir the cocktail with a spoon, garnish with candied ginger if desired, and serve!
