Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1.50 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Whipped cream for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Slowly bring the mixture to a low boil over low heat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until light and pale in color, about 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add a small amount of the heated milk mixture to the eggs, whisking constantly to temper the eggs. Continue this process until all the milk is incorporated with the egg mixture.
- Return the milk mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until slightly thickened and the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Do not bring the mixture to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream.
- Chill the mixture for several hours.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired.
