Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 oz rum

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat until it starts to bubble around the edges, stirring occasionally, but do not let it boil.
  3. Gradually pour the warmed milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly until well combined.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches 160°F, for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and pour the mixture into a pitcher. Stir in the heavy cream, nutmeg, and vanilla.
  6. Chill the eggnog completely before serving. Once chilled, stir in the rum before serving.
