Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ounce rum

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the egg, sugar, and salt.
  2. Warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until bubbles form around the edges, stirring occasionally. Do not bring to a boil.
  3. Slowly pour the warmed milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly until well combined.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, while whisking constantly, until it reaches 160°F, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and transfer to a pitcher. Stir in the heavy cream, remaining milk, nutmeg, vanilla, and rum.
  6. Chill completely before serving.
