Grilled Watermelon Bourbon Smash
A refreshing and unique twist on the classic Mint Julep, this cocktail combines grilled watermelon, mint-infused simple syrup, and bourbon for a vibrant and flavorful summer drink.
Ingredients
- 8-10 fresh mint leaves
- 2 tbsp white granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp filtered water
- 1/4 lb seedless watermelon, cut into cubes
- Crushed ice
- 1.50 fl oz bourbon
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the mint, sugar, and water. Heat over medium low heat until the mixture reaches a slight simmer. Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep for 1 hour. Strain and transfer to a small bowl.
- Grill the watermelon wedges over hot charcoal for about 1 minute per side until they develop a dark red color and grill marks. Allow them to cool slightly, then chop the watermelon into cubes and puree in a blender.
- Strain the watermelon puree to remove the pulp.
- Pack a cocktail glass with crushed ice and pour in the bourbon.
- Add a tablespoon or two of the mint simple syrup to the glass.
- Top with the grilled watermelon puree and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
