Heavenly Holiday Eggnog

Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/3 cup whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon bourbon
- Additional freshly grated nutmeg for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and sugar until thick and lemon colored.
- In a 2-quart saucepan, combine the milk and 1 cup of whipping cream. Add the yolk mixture and stir well.
- Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture coats a metal spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
- Place the saucepan in cold water until the custard is cool, stirring occasionally. Then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours but no longer than 24 hours.
- Just before serving, stir the bourbon into the chilled custard.
- In a chilled small bowl, beat the remaining 1 cup of whipping cream with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
- Gently stir the whipped cream into the custard.
- Sprinkle with additional nutmeg and serve, or refrigerate until serving time.
