Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground allspice
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 oz spiced or dark rum
  • 1 oz butter batter
  • 8 oz boiling maple water or plain boiling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter batter by creaming together the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and maple syrup. Roll into a log and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Store in the fridge.
  2. In a heat-proof glass or mug, add the maple syrup, spiced rum, and a hunk of butter batter.
  3. Fill halfway with boiling water and stir vigorously with the cinnamon stick to melt the butter and dissolve the sugars.
  4. Top with more boiling water and sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg.
