Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 12 strips lemon zest
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- Crushed ice
- 2 ounces bourbon
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat sugar, lemon zest, and water over high heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 20 minutes. Then remove the lemon zest and let the syrup cool completely. It can be refrigerated for up to 1 week. (Makes 1 1/2 cups.)
- In a julep cup, muddle the mint leaves with 1 tablespoon of the lemon syrup until the mint starts to break down.
- Add the bourbon and fill the cup with ice, stirring until well chilled.
- Top with more ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.
