Ingredients

  • 6 mint leaves
  • 3 lemon wedges (each equivalent to 1/8 of a lemon)
  • 3/4 oz. simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
  • 1 oz. Fernet-Branca
  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica Formula preferred)
  • 1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • Mint sprig (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle 6 mint leaves and 3 lemon wedges with 3/4 oz. simple syrup, pressing to extract the juice without damaging the mint.
  2. Add 1 oz. Fernet-Branca, 1 oz. sweet vermouth, 1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of kosher salt to the shaker.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds until the exterior becomes chilled.
  4. Double-strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice, using a cocktail strainer and a fine-mesh strainer.
  5. Garnish with a mint sprig.
