Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp absinthe (to rinse the glass)
  • 1 1/4 oz Sazerac Rye
  • 2 dashes Peychauds bitters
  • 1 cube sugar

Instructions

  1. Rinse the edges of an old fashioned glass with a small amount of absinthe, ensuring even coverage along the inside.
  2. Fill the glass with crushed ice and set it aside to chill. Once chilled, discard the ice.
  3. In a mixing glass, add 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters and a sugar cube. Muddle the cube and add the whiskey or cognac, then stir.
  4. Pour the contents into your chilled old fashioned glass, garnish with a lemon twist, and serve.
