Ingredients
- 3/4 cup water
- 3/4 cup cranberries (4 oz)
- 3/4 cup red wine (shiraz)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 bag of Mulling Spice
- fine mesh sieve
- paper towels
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine water and cranberries. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for about 25 minutes until the cranberries have softened and "popped".
- Strain the cranberry juice through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the berries to release all the juice. If needed, strain the juice again through a paper towel-lined sieve.
- Return the juice to the saucepan and add the wine, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the sugar has dissolved.
- Remove from heat and add the mulling spice. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, tasting after 3 minutes and steeping longer if desired.
- Make any necessary adjustments, such as adding more sugar or wine.
- Serve warm or cold and enjoy. The mulled wine can be made ahead and stored in the fridge, and reheated when ready to serve.
