Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 spiced chai black tea bag (or plain black tea)
  • 1 strip of orange peel
  • 2-3 whole cloves
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 whole black peppercorns
  • 1/8 tsp freshly grated ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp cardamom pods (optional)
  • 3/4 Tbsp light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup 1% milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 1 oz spiced rum
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau (or orange liqueur of your choice)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the water, tea bag, orange peel, cloves, cinnamon stick, black peppercorns, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom pods (if using), and brown sugar.
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then turn off the heat and allow it to steep for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, pressing on the tea bag and discarding the solids.
  4. Add the milk and warm the mixture until simmering over low heat.
  5. Stir in the spiced rum and Cointreau.
  6. Blend the mixture with an immersion blender or in a regular blender until frothy.
  7. Garnish with a cinnamon stick if desired and serve warm.
