Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon absinthe
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 lemon peel (2-3 inch piece, as garnish)

Instructions

  1. Chill an Old Fashioned glass and swirl the inside with absinthe, discarding any excess. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Peychaud's bitters. Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full of ice. Stir with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds until well chilled and fully combined.
  3. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass.
  4. Pinch the lemon peel over the drink, rub the rim of the glass with the peel, and garnish with the lemon peel.
