Ingredients

  • 3 oz medium-bodied red wine (Tempranillo or Grenache)
  • 2 oz pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1/4 oz St Germain
  • 1/4 oz spiced simple syrup
  • 1 blood orange, juiced
  • 1/2 small ripe pear, sliced
  • 1/4 cup mixed frozen fruit (blackberries, raspberries, cranberries)
  • Pomegranate arils for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Bring to a light boil, then simmer for 5-10 minutes. Let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  2. In a large bowl or pitcher, mix the wine, pomegranate juice, Cointreau, St Germain, and 1/4 cup of the spiced simple syrup.
  3. Add the orange juice, cinnamon stick, and star anise from the simple syrup to the wine mixture and mix well.
  4. Add some orange slices, sliced pear, and half of the mixed frozen fruit to the sangria.
  5. Cover the bowl or pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. When ready to serve, garnish with the remaining fruit and pomegranate arils. Pour into glasses and enjoy.
